Speedway Christmas

Holiday Pop-Up Bars
Expect thousands upon thousands of lights throughout the garden, which comprises 380 acres on the banks of Lake Wylie. Attendance is going to be limited so the garden will not be crowded this year. We are adding to this list as organizers confirm details for the 2020 season.
Go Ice Skating at the U.S. National Whitewater Center
Charlotte has teams for both sports and there will be games all throughout the winter season. Check out their schedules below. Each year, the Ballantyne Hotel creates a beautiful display of gingerbread houses. It is open to the public and completely free! However, you have the option to vote on your favorite gingerbread house for $1/vote – proceeds go to Atrium Health Levine Children’s Hospital. This event is highly anticipated each year and a fan favorite for the locals.
The Holiday Market
This Charlotte tradition will also include appearances by Sir Minty, Sir Purr and Santa. This nighttime parade will travel down Matthews-Mint Hill Road from Bain School to the Mint Hill Library. Santa will leave after the parade and return to Town Hall for the Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. After the parade, meet at Town Hall for the Town’s Annual Christmas Tree Lighting. The parade starts in Davidson at the intersection of Griffith Street and Highway 115 and ends in Cornelius at the intersection of Highway 115 and Catawba Avenue. The Novant Health Thanksgiving Parade is planned for Thanksgiving Eve again.

There was a plane flyover at the beginning of the parade which had our kids giggling with excitement. The U.S. National Whitewater Center is an outdoor activity haven. Bring your own skates or rent a pair there. When it’s time to warm up, stop by the on-ice Airstream trailer and grab a cup of something hot. Activity passes are $25 and include skate rental fees.
Thanksgiving Day Parade
This is the 77th year of the Charlotte Thanksgiving parade! The parade starts at Tryon Street at 9th Street, and progresses down Tryon to Brooklyn Village Avenue. McAdenville itself is an old mill town and was home to Pharr Mills, which is still in operation in Gaston County today. Some of the old mill houses remain, along with new houses built in a similar style. SantaCon is a bar crawl event that takes place in hundreds of cities throughout the world, including one in Charlotte.
